title = "Introduction to the symposium: Paternal behavior",
author = "Brown, {Richard E.}",
note = "Funding Information: While I am pleased with the symposium, I have two regrets. The first is that I failed to include a paper on the paternal behavior of the amphibia, a group of considerable importance (McDiarmid, 1978; Gross and Shine, 1981; Wells, 1981; Tov/mend etal., 1984). Second, I regret that Robert Tri-vers' presentation, {"}The relationship between female choice and the evolution of male parental investment,{"} was not available for inclusion with the other papers from the symposium in this volume of the American Zoologist. I have had a great deal of help in organizing this symposium and would like to thank Dr. Terry Christiansen of the Animal Behavior Society and Mary Wiley of the ASZ for their assistance. I would also like to thank the participants, my colleagues and many correspondents for their enthusiastic support of the symposium. Dr. Lilyan White, in particular, helped in many ways. Monetary support for the organization of the symposium was provided by the American Society of Zoologists and by grant A7441 from N.S.E.R.C. of Canada.",
