Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and President of Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine

Ji Guang, a male born in August 1968, of Han nationality from Zhangjiagang City, Jiangsu Province, holds a doctorate in medicine and is a professor, chief physician, and doctoral supervisor. He began working in July 1997 and joined the Communist Party of China in January 1991.

He serves as the Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, the President of the Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and the President of the Shanghai Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Ji Guang is the Chief Scientist of the Shanghai Frontier Science Center for Inflammatory and Cancer Translational Disease Biology. He's recognized as one of the first group of Qihuang Scholars in China and is a national candidate for the National Hundred Thousand Talents Project. Moreover, he was awarded the title of "National Young and Middle-aged Expert with Outstanding Contributions" by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security.

Ji Guang is also the Chairman of the Chinese Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine Health Management Branch, the Vice Chairman of the Spleen and Stomach Disease Branch, and the Chairman of the Health Management Branch of the Chinese Gerontological Society and the Geriatrics Society. In addition, he holds the position of Deputy Editor-in-Chief of "J Integ Med" and "BMC Complement Med Ther" and is an Editorial Board Member of "World J Gastroenterol".

His main research areas are disease-syndrome combination methodology, metabolic inflammation, and tumorigenesis, and he has made significant contributions to disease syndrome classification methods and precision syndrome medicine. Ji Guang has authored numerous papers as the corresponding author, with more than 4,000 citations. He is internationally recognized as one of the most influential gastroenterologists in China (TOP30, Scopus) and one of the World's Top 2% Scientists (Elsevier). He has received three first and 6-second prizes in the Shanghai and the Ministry of Education Science and Technology Progress Awards, developed and transferred three new national drugs, and led the compilation of 9 industry guidelines and expert consensus opinions.

Experience

- 1991: Graduated with a bachelor's degree in integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine from Yangzhou Medical College, Jiangsu Province. 
- 1994: Obtained a master's degree in Basic Theories of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine from Hubei College of Traditional Chinese Medicine. 
- 1997: Completed a Ph.D. in Traditional Chinese Internal Medicine from Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. 
- 1997: He began work at Longhua Hospital, affiliated with Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, as a Resident Physician and later served as an Attending Physician. He subsequently obtained the positions of Associate Chief Physician and Chief Physician in the Department of Gastroenterology. 
- November 2001: Assumed the role of Director of the Science and Technology Department at Longhua Hospital. 
- May 2004: Appointed as the Deputy Director of Longhua Hospital affiliated with Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. 
- June 2007: Appointed as the Director of the Office of Discipline Construction and Director of the Science and Technology Department at Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. 
- February 2014: Appointed as the Vice President of the Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Deputy Director of the Shanghai Research Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine. 
- August 2017: Took on the role of Deputy Party Secretary of Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. 
- July 2022: Appointed as the President of Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Director of the Shanghai Research Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Awards

He is primarily involved in clinical and scientific research on preventing and treating digestive and liver diseases using traditional Chinese medicine. He has led five national projects, such as the National Major Science and Technology Project, the National "863" Plan, the National Natural Science Foundation, and 19 municipal and ministerial projects. He was chosen as a national candidate for the National Hundred Thousand Talents Project, the Ministry of Education's New Century Excellent Talents, Shanghai Leading Talents, Shanghai Excellent Discipline Leaders, and other talent programs. He has received numerous personal honors, including the National Young and Middle-aged Experts with Outstanding Contributions, the First Excellent Young Contribution Award for Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, the Third Prize of the Tenth Shanghai Health System Silver Snake Award, the Second Shanghai Excellent Medical Garden Rising Star, and the Shanghai Health Bureau Commendation Order. He has won 1 first prize for Shanghai Science and Technology Progress, 2-second prize for the Ministry of Education's College Science and Technology Progress, 1-second prize and three third prizes for Shanghai Science and Technology Progress, two first prizes, 1-second prize, and five third prizes for science and technology from industry associations. He has also developed two new national drugs (obtained clinical research approval and implemented results transformation). Additionally, he has published over 200 papers as the first or corresponding author, with more than 30 included in SCI. He has guided three postdoctoral fellows and 15 doctoral students.
